DCA Farewells Ramadan with the Qur’an Competition

On Saturday, March 29, following the Isha prayer, the Diyanet Center of America (DCA) hosted the Qur’an Recitation Competition as a heartfelt farewell to the blessed month of Ramadan.

The evening began with a special Khatm Al-Qur’an (Completion of the Qur’an) program, followed by a Qur’an competition featuring seven finalists selected from over 20 preliminary participants. Contestants recited selected verses from Surahs Ya-Sin, Al-Fath, and Al-Mulk, entirely from memory.

In his keynote address, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Kanca, Chairman of the DCA Board, emphasized the importance of not only reading and understanding the Qur’an but also living by its teachings.

He highlighted the importance of such competitions in strengthening children’s connection with the Qur’an from an early age, stating:
“Encouraging them is like lighting the way for the future.”

The competition was judged by a distinguished panel: Imam Nurullah Çelebi, Imam Yusuf Ozyurt, Dr. Ahmad Alzaree, and Dr. Siddiq Ahmed, who evaluated the participants on memorization, tajweed, articulation, and maqam.

While all qaris received gifts in recognition of their efforts, Rayan Siddique earned 1st place and received a $300 gift card, presented by Dr. Fatih Kanca. Nour Aldeen Alassa secured 2nd place with a $250 gift card, presented by Dr. Ahmad Alzaree, and Davuud Qaadri was awarded 3rd place, receiving a $200 gift card presented by Dr. Siddiq Ahmed.

We congratulate all participants for their dedication to the Book of Allah. May their efforts be accepted as acts of worship, and may our connection to the Qur’an continue throughout the year.

DCA remains committed to being a House of the Qur’an—fostering love for the Book of Allah and creating opportunities for young Muslims to grow in their faith and knowledge.
