Grand MSA Iftar Program


The Grand MSA Iftar program, organized by the Diyanet Center of America (DCA) and sponsored by Lokman Hekim University, brought together Muslim students from various universities, strengthening friendship and solidarity. The event saw particularly high participation from Georgetown University and the University of Maryland. The presence of had a significant impact on the community. His presence reinforced students’ sense of belonging, and his speech on social solidarity was found to be highly inspiring.
DCA Chairman Assoc. Prof. Fatih Kanca , in his opening speech, emphasized the importance of building strong connections with young people. Prof. Elmir Sinanović, addressing the students, spoke about the Islamic concept of renewal (tajdid) and stressed the need for them to embrace their religious and social responsibilities while developing their leadership potential.
Following him, Imam Yahya Hendi from Georgetown Chaplaincy delivered a compelling speech on social solidarity and the importance of active participation within the community. His presence left a profound impact on the students, reinforcing their sense of responsibility toward the Muslim community.
Following the recitation of the Qur’an and the call to prayer, a communal iftar was held with the support of Lokman Hekim University, accompanied by a special video presentation introducing DCA’s mission and activities.
Students expressed their desire for more social and cultural activities, increased engagement with prominent scholars and thinkers, and stronger collaboration among Muslim student communities. The “Istanbul” T-shirts gifted to participants were greatly appreciated.
After the event, students praised its success and expressed their willingness to contribute as volunteers in future programs. A shared understanding emerged on the importance of continuing such gatherings, and the following recommendations were highlighted based on participant feedback:
• Increasing Social and Cultural Activities: Organizing game nights, movie nights, and other events that attract young people.
• Encouraging Cultural Gatherings: Strengthening cultural interaction through events like traditional Turkish breakfasts.
• Fostering Volunteer Participation: Encouraging students to take active roles in events to reinforce community awareness.
• Engaging with Prominent Guests: Hosting seminars with renowned scholars and thinkers to enhance students’ knowledge and motivation.
Based on these recommendations, DCA aims to organize more events to support the social and cultural development of Muslim student communities.
