From Stress to Serenity: DCA Wellness Event

From Stress to Serenity
Islamic Psychological Tools for Resilience
Alhamdulillah, the DCA had an inspiring turnout for our transformative wellness event, From Stress to Serenity: Islamic Psychological Tools for Resilience, held in collaboration with Guided Hearts Institute.
The program began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Fatih Kanca, who emphasized that “serenity (sakīnah) comes when the heart is connected to Allah.” Drawing from Imām al-Ghazālī’s Iḥyā ʿUlūm al-Dīn, he reminded attendees that while anxiety and grief can weigh heavily on the heart, they also awaken the soul to seek refuge in Allah. Dr. Kanca further highlighted DCA’s commitment to holistic community wellness—nurturing the mind, body, and soul.
🕊 General Session
Held in the DCA Cultural Center Auditorium, the general session featured three distinguished speakers:
- Dr. Amir Shah, Double Board-Certified Psychiatrist, opened with “Understanding Stress: What Happens to the Body, Mind, and Soul.” He explained the physiological and neurological effects of stress, demonstrated grounding techniques using breathing and essential oils, and underscored the importance of self-awareness in emotional regulation.
- Ustadha Dunia Shuaib, Educator, Author, and Founder of Guided Hearts Institute, presented “Islamically Integrated Stress Management Tools.” She reminded the audience that stress itself is not inherently bad—it can be a motivator when managed effectively—and shared Qur’anic and Prophetic duʿās, lifestyle strategies, and mindfulness practices rooted in tawakkul and dhikr.
- Aleyna Nur Sarap, LMHC, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, concluded with “Distress Tolerance and Emotional Regulation Skills.” She offered evidence-based tools to manage difficult emotions, maintain balance, and cultivate compassion toward oneself and others.
💬 Deep-Dive Stress Circles
After ʿAṣr prayer and a short meet-and-greet, attendees joined men’s and women’s parallel deep-dive stress circles—interactive small-group discussions offering personalized guidance, practical coping strategies, and reflection. Participants explored techniques for emotional resilience and self-soothing, ending the evening with a renewed sense of tranquility and connection.
🌙 Closing Reflections
The day concluded with heartfelt reflections, gratitude, and motivation to live with greater sakīnah, self-awareness, and trust in Allah. This event was part of DCA’s ongoing Community Wellness Initiative, integrating Islamic principles with modern psychological insights to promote holistic well-being.
