Program Focus

The Diyanet Islamic Research Institute (DIRI) at the Diyanet Center of America invites applications for its internship program. Interns will engage with:

  • Research on religious movements, Islamic organizations, and faith-based groups in the U.S.
  • Academic and logistical support for the DCA Graduate Student Symposium.
  • Institutional research and academic event coordination at DIRI.
Each intern will be assigned a supervisor to provide academic guidance and mentorship. Applicants based in the DMV area are preferred; however, applicants from other locations and those seeking online arrangements will also be considered.

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

  • Enrolled in college or graduate programs.
  • Studying social sciences, including but not limited to political science, economics, sociology, religious studies, international relations, and history, interdisciplinary studies.
  • Strongly interested in religion, civil society, and academic research.
  • Working proficiency in everyday and academic English, sufficient for research, communication, and participation in meetings and activities.

  • A statement of intent (max. 500 words) explaining motivation and interest in the program

  • CV Submission: Upload your CV in PDF format and ensure the file name includes your surname (e.g., ACAR_CV.pdf).

International Applicants & Visa Considerations

Applicants applying from outside the United States must carefully plan their timeline. DIRI can provide an official invitation/support letter upon request; however, visa issuance and timing are entirely dependent on U.S. consular procedures.

Please note: If you do not already hold a U.S. visa, visa appointments and processing times in many countries may take several months. We advise applicants to factor this into their planning before applying.
