December 9th, 2016
At the Diyanet Center of America in Lanham Maryland, located outside of Washington D.C, Troop 1453 a newly chartered group of over forty Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts received their first official Charter from the Boy Scouts of America. The Charter was presented to the Diyanet Center of America’s Charter Organization Representative Omer Aslim who kicked started the program back in August of this year with the help of Abdul Rashid Abdullah the Executive Director of the National Association of Muslim Americans on Scouting as well as with the help of Stephen Allen and Joe Vlcek from the Boy Scouts of America.

With the help of parent volunteers such as Ammenah Cappers and David Sheets the Scouts of Troop 1453 were able to quickly organize themselves and begin working towards achieving badges some of which were awarded to the young scouts on the day of the charter presentation ceremony.

The new troop will likely aide in strengthening the relationship between American faith communities by acting as cultural bridge between civilizations. The ethnically and culturally diverse troop serves as a model for troops around the US and the world.
